CJA 2007 SUMMER CAMP

2007 CJA Summer Camp

Wow, camp is coming soon: July 3,4,5,6, & 7. It promises to be as good or better than any of our other camps, which have been spectacular. There are so many events planned for camp we can only touch on them here. To begin with there will be a flurry of activity several days and even weeks before, getting everything ready. Then on July 2nd, we will have our National Black Belt exams, the Camp Instructor’s meeting, and the meeting of the National CJA Board of Directors.

The next morning the gong will ring at 7 AM and the pace will not let up for 5 days. We have 75 classes that will be taught by about 10 of our best Black Belts. Classes will range from Yawara, Nage, Shime, Oku, and special Black Belt lists, plus CPR/1st Aid by two of our top certified instructors, Tanto, Tanju, Kombo, Hanbo, Shiatsu, Okazaki Restoration, Ki exercises, Kempo, sparring (Kempo, Bo, Tanto, etc.). Then there will be special classes in Kung Fu San Soo, Tai Chi Ch’un, and “Gracie” JuJitsu. This does not count special classes on the ranges (Shuriken, etc.). Nor does it include the evening movies. Don’t put too much pie and ice cream on your plates folks. You can go back for 2nds.

We will have a special “infiltration class exercise” run by Mr. Ed Cope, commanding officer of our local Army Reserve. We ran one like this a couple of years ago and it was a big hit.

On the 4th, we will have a super celebration, honoring all those who served or are serving in our military, as well as those who put their lives on the line with law enforcement and fire fighting for us. The fireworks display last year had over 140 mortars and other fireworks and we intend to out do that this year. We have a great video we will show before the fireworks entitled “Celebrate America”. If it doesn’t bring tears to your eyes, I don’t know what will.

Of course all the other evenings we will be having our special campfires (hand me the marshmallows). Tra Le Gael has agreed to come back again this year with their special Celtic music. We will have live keyboard entertainment by our own Austin Berner. And we plan a special karoke sing along one night.

And this is just the “tip of the iceberg” as they say. One of the very special things about camp is the camaraderie and friendship shared by getting together with old friends and meeting new ones.

Our camp is very unique among all types of camps in that it is almost free. We charge only $140 for the 5 days. You will not find a camp anywhere that provides all that we do for anything less than 10 times that amount: classes, food (and lots of it), t-shirt, and more fun activities than you can “shake a stick at.”. Classes are all taught without charge by a dedicated bunch of Black Belts.

And we have also have a dedicated group of volunteers and supporters from the community who assist in a myriad of tasks. The CJA is a 501.C.3 Non Profit Corporation and we make no profit on this activity. Camp is open to all persons who are CJA members ($15-25). AAU membership ($15-27) is required for insurance purposes. Our camp is sanctioned by the AAU. Membership applications will be available at the registration desk on the 2nd. Be sure to bring your gi, tent, sleeping bag, and mosquito repellent (not bad this year). See you all there.
